ERASER

Synopsis

Two storylines unfold, building off of each other and eventually converging at the end. In the first storyline we see a doctor, performing some sort of operation on a patient, Tom Adler. We slowly discover that the doctor is rewinding Tom’s mind like a clock, erasing his memories one by one; at the end the doctor has wiped Tom’s mind clean, leaving only a blank slate. In the second storyline we see a man waking up in a mysterious hospital facility. He has a mask stuck to his face, and has no recollection of how he got there, or of his own identity. As the masked man tries to get answers, he is chased down and apprehended by guards of this facility. It is here that the two storylines merge together. The masked man discovers that he has unwillingly gotten his memories erased, just like Tom Adler in the first storyline. We learn that in the world that this story takes place in, criminals have their whole identity erased as punishment for their crimes; essentially rebooting them. The masked man will therefore never know who he was, or what crime he committed to deserve this. The film closes with the doctor finishing the operation on Tom Adler. In Tom’s final stages he is innocent and pure like a child, before all of the mess that led his life astray; before his whole life came undone.
